She was born in Geneva, N.Y. in 1822. At the age of 12 came to Michigan. with her parents and settled in Monroe County. She was married to John Sortor in 1841, who died in 1903.
She was survived by five children: Justus Sortor and Mrs. N. M. Thomas of this city. Ethyl Sortor of Samaria; Mrs. William Murphy of Latchie; O. and Mrs. Len Mills of toledo; also one sister and three brothers. For many years she has been a faithful member of the M.E. Church. The funeral services where held at the home of her daughter Mrs. N. M. Thomas, 112 Godroy Ave. Saturday morning December 2 at 10:00 o'clock, Rev. Shaw officiating. Her remains were buried beside her husband's in the Sackett Cemetery" on 8 December 1905 at Monroe, Monroe Co, Michigan. She was buried on 2 December 1905 at King Cemetery, Monroe, Monroe Co, Michigan. Mary Lavina Francisco was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Her married name was Sortor. She moved to at Monroe Co, Michigan, circa 1834 from Geneva, Ontario Co, New York.

H, 1st Regiment, New York Dragoons, this Regiment was also known as the 19th New York Calvary.
