Elisha moved to New York in 1814 first going to Ovid, Seneca Co and later to Seneca Falls. Elisha, being the pioneer, heard of the Genessee Valley which was covered with a massive growth of timber of considerable value, decided to move on to this new land. In 1815 they came to the then new area of Amity, Belmont Co, New York. Elisha and his family made their journey from Seneca Falls in a cart drawn by a yoke of oxen with their few possesions. William the eldest son made the trip on horseback and Jessee the youngest was but a year old at the time. Once there they first built a log cabin on the banks of the Genessee River. The stone door step of this first home is still in place. Unfortunately Elisha died just two years after his arrival in the Genessee Valley.

Daniel Webster Sortor was a farmer. He was described as being 5'10", blue eyes and dark hair circa 1813. He performed military service on 19 February 1813 at Geneva, Ontario Co, New York, during the War of 1812, serving with Captain Dox's Co, 13th US Infantry as a Private. He was reported sick at Williamsville and did not again appear on the company rolls. An affidavit in his military records indicates that he was taken sick and conveyed to the hospital at Lewiston and that he remained there until his regiment left. After this he was returned to duty under Captain Davenport and left Fort George with Winfield Scott. He was again taken sick at Geneva and was reported dead. His brother Isaac found him sick and carried him sixteen miles to the home of Isaac Nevels where he remained until he became sensible of his situation. He then reported himself to Doctor Delevan, surgeon of the regiment. He then repoted to Colonel Brady who ordered the doctor to care for him and report him for duty as soon as he was able. He remained under this doctors care until peace was declared. THis affidavit also states that Daniel's father and brother visited Colonel D. Beaverly and interceded with him to obtain a discharge for Daniel even if they had to obtain a substitute. A discharge was made out and signed by the Secretary of War on or about September 1814 at Green Bush, New York. THis discharge was given to Colonel Beaverly at a General Court Martial and was not returned to Daniel. Daniel did receive a Bounty Land Warrant for 160 acres for his service in the War of 1812. He was involved in the following legal matter; State of Ilinois and County of Lake on this 25th day of November AD 1850 personally appeared before me Robt K. Colk a Justice of the Peace within the afore mentioned county and state. Daniel Sorter aged fifty nine years, resident of Antioch in the county and state afore said who being duly sworn accordind to law declares that he was born in the town of Montgomery, Somerset County State of New Jersey on the 9th daty of March AD 1791 and when he enlisted he was a resident of the State of New York Seneca County and Town of Ovid. Enlisted at Geneva, New York by Seargeant Kingbury in Captain Dox's Company in January or Febuary 1813. Enrolled at Fort Niagra in the 13th Regiment of the United States Infantry, commaned by Col. Jaohn Christie. I was Taken sick at Geneva and was reported dead. My brother Isaac found me lying senseless and carried me sixteen miles to Isaac Neal's house where I remained until I became sensible of my situation. Then I reported myself to Doctor Delevan, Surgean of a Militia Regiment and he reported me to Col. Brady and he ordered the said Doctor Delvan to take care of me and report me for duty as soon as I was able and I remained under his charge untill peace was declared which did Honorable Discharge Me. But in AD 1816 my father and brother Isaac SOter did see Col. Breaverly and intersceded with him unknown to me at the time to get me discharge it they had to get a substitute and a dischage was made out and signed by James Monroe Sec' of War on or about Sep 1816 at Greenbush, New York. At a General Court Martial it was given to Col. Breaverly which he neglected to forward to me. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land and back pay which he may be entitled to under the act issued Sept 28th AD 1850 _____ further says that his papers have all been destroyed by fire His Daniel X Sorter Mark X Leroy D. Gage Sworn to and subscribed before me the 25th day of Nov AD 1850 Robt K. Colk J.P. .

William M. Sortore Sr. was a lumberman and farmer. William owned and operated the original homestead of his father. The house he built on the land was still standing in 1964. He was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. William was also an avid abolitionist leaving his church in 1860 because of their stand on slavery. He was a member of the underground railway hiding as many as 10 or 12 slaves in his house at one time. One of these slaves was George Harris who would be the model for one of the major characaters in 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Church. He and Cynthia Diana Clark appeared on the census of 1850 at Allegany Co, New York.

Harmon Sortore died on 2 March 1883 at Belmont, Allegany Co, New York, at age 70.

Jessee Sortore was born on 30 August 1814 at Ovid, Seneca Co, New York. He was the son of Elisha Sortore and Margaret Peggy Conover. Jessee Sortore married Julia Van Campen on 11 August 1836 at Belmont, Allegany Co, New York. Jessee Sortore died on 14 January 1900 at age 85.
Jessee Sortore was a blacksmith and he had been a grocer. Jesse was also at times the town collector, assessor, and postmaster.

Emily Sartore Blue was born circa 1811 at Elkridge, Ann Arundel Co, Maryland. She was the daughter of John Henry Blue and Elizabeth (?). Emily Sartore Blue married John Butler circa 1825 at Baltimore, Baltimore Co, Maryland. Emily Sartore Blue died circa 1881 at Columbus, Franklin Co, Ohio.
Emily & John moved to Columbus, OH sometime around 1835. Her married name was Butler.
Jonathan Stout was the son of Jesse Stout and Abigail Lott. Jonathan Stout married Jane Blue, daughter of Isaac Blue and Amelia (Amy) Sortore, circa 1810 at Tompkins Co, New York. Jonathan Stout died after 1820 at Tompkins Co, New York.
Jonathan came from Hunterdon Co, NJ to Dryden, Tompkins Co, NY with his parents in 1810.
Amy Blue Stout was born circa 1812 at Tompkins Co, New York. She was the daughter of Jonathan Stout and Jane Blue. Amy Blue Stout married James Starrett circa 1828. Amy Blue Stout died circa 1845. She was buried at Gospel Lot Cemetery, Ovid, Seneca Co, New York.
Her married name was Starrett.
