b. 6 December 1421-- d. 1471
The coins of Henry VI is one of the main areas of concentration in my collection. They are arranged here by issue with each issue having it's own section. Things should be pretty self explanatory with the possible exception of the Whitton heading you will see below. This refers to the series of articles by C. A. Whitton, The Heavy Coinage of Henry VI. These articles can be found in the BNJ 23, 1938-39, p. 59-90, 3 pls. Vol. 23, 1939-40, p. 205-267, 3 pls., p. 399-437, 3 pls. Vol. XXIV, 1942-43, p. 118-119; and an update in BNJ 34 (1965) p. 118. Unfortunately I do not have copies of all of these articles. If any one who is reading this has a set of the BNJ and would be willing to help me complete my copies please contact me. If you do not see a Whitton number that means I have not been able to make a determination yet or that coin is in one of the articles I do not have. One other area of explanation might be the term "mule" which you will see mentioned in this section several times. When a coin is said to be a mule it means that one side comes from one issue and the other side from a different issue. For example there is a coin shown here that has a rosette-mascle obverse and a pinecone-mascle reverse. This allows for the date of the coin to be a bit more refined. This coin was probably minted in 1430 since that is the only year in which both issues were minted.
I have just reorganized this section. It was beginning to be to large to load in a reasonable amount of time. So I have placed the various issues on seperate pages which I hope will allow for faster loading.
